LaRue Scott Catlett, 86 of Hot Springs Village, AR died peacefully at home on September 12, surrounded by family and friends.

Born June 3, 1937, in San Antonio TX, Larue Scott Catlett’s was a life well-lived. Scott was a gifted athlete, an academic, and a man of deep faith who was blessed with a loving family and an abundance of friends.

As testament to his athletic ability, he was quarterback for Phillips Academy Andover and then Lettered his freshman year at Stanford University before transferring to Texas to focus on diving. He was an accomplished high platform diver at the University of Texas where he earned All American honors.

Scott earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Texas and a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin. He was a recipient of the Fulbright award and taught at the University of Argentina for the cultural exchange program. He joined the faculty of University of New Mexico until he went on to teach at the Albuquerque Academy. He often referred to his time there as the job he enjoyed most in his life. He spent many successful years in the Oil and Gas Industry along with earning his Real Estate brokers licenses in three different states.

Later in life his athletic pursuits turned to golf and flyfishing. The Big Hole River in Montana was among the many places he and his wife Sharon called home and where he loved flyfishing. He coached his sons and grandchildren in soccer, golf and baseball. He was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, antique collector and family game advocate. He loved music and could often be heard singing or humming one of his favorite tunes. He played both the guitar and piano.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, who he referred to as the love of his life, son Dan, son Ben and daughter in law Pam, stepson, Andy and daughter in law Georgia, and stepson Clay and daughter in law Kathleen. He had ten grandchildren who lovingly called him Pop, and numerous other family members who loved him dearly.

Scott was a humble man, and his family is respecting his wishes that there be no funeral service. Instead, a celebration of life is being planned and will be held at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville, TX. Cremation services under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of Malvern, Arkansas.
