James Eugene Edwards

James “Gene” Edwards, 78 of Malvern, Arkansas passed away at his home on December 7, 2022. Gene was born on September 16, 1944, in Piedmont, Alabama to Henry and Johnnie Edwards. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, a flying crew chief, mechanic, gentle giant to all, and ever the optimist. He loved playing poker at the Moose Lodge on Sundays. Gene welcomed the opportunity to fix anything broken, often ending in super glue. Always in search of a bargain, he enjoyed yard sales and would outspend anyone to get a great deal. He would never pass an opportunity to tell anyone how proud he was of his two daughters one a lawyer and the other a special education teacher. He was forever grateful for his grandson, Dylan, and never passed an opportunity to brag on Dylan’s accomplishments. Above all else a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. Gene said the highest compliment that he ever received was “Mr. Gene, to you, people are just people.”

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Regina Edwards, amongst other family members.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of over 49 years; Martha Edwards, two daughters; Amburr Dawn Edwards-Drury (John), and Carmen Jean Edwards (Jessica), one sister; Ann Buford (Jerry), half-sister; Pat Dykes, grandson; Dylan James Drury, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Memorial donations can be made to the Malvern Moose Lodge. Services pending.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with services following at 11:00 AM at the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Online condolences can be made at www.atkinsonfuneralhome.net
