Charles Earnest Burks

Charles Earnest Burks, or to some “Charlie” passed away peacefully at his home November 17th, 2023. Charles was born May 4,1941 to Marvin and Blanche Ward Burks.

Charles called the Oak Grove Community home where he was an avid farmer and cattle owner.

Charles spent 38 years as a load operator with the local gravel plant, Martin Marietta where he was awarded the “best load operator”.

Retirement didn’t slow him down, only allowing him more time outside on the farm. Charles hated to sit still! He was a man of few words but when he talked, everyone stopped to listen.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Blanche Burks; brother n law David Roache Sr., and nephew David Roache Jr. (Davey).

Left to cherish his memory, sisters, Wilma Jean Burks and Bernice Roache; nieces, Kim Tidwell and Courtney Heath (Robbie); great nephews, Matthew Tidwell and Bentley Heath; great nieces, Emma and Allison Heath and close friends, Sammy Hedges and Wayne Dyer.

There will be an informal visitation Monday, November 20th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 21st at 2:00pm at Alford Cemetery.
